Children’s Church
Children’s Church for children ages four years through elementary school takes place 11:00-12:15 (during the late worship service) every week except the first Sunday of the month. The first Sunday of each month is Family Sunday, when the children take what they learn in Sunday School and worship in the church with their families.
The current curriculum for Pre-school and Kinder is Creative Bible Classes taught by by Caitlyn Pleake. Kids love learning the Bible through stories, crafts, games, and snacks! Every week brings something new!
The Elementary class led by Christie Harper is studying Precepts Bible Studies for Kids by Kay Arthur.
The children meet in the Sunday School building for their classes and come into the sanctuary just before the regular sermon for a special children’s sermon from Father Ed Morgan.
Elementary teacher Christie Harper reports: “We are having so much fun with our kids in Sunday School and Children’s Church! Larry and Karen Pleake, their daughter Caitlyn, Julie Morgan, and I work together to teach the children. We have many different ways that we teach them about God and the Bible, including Bible quizzes (they race to find the scripture that is called out), skits, and songs (we have live music via Karen and Larry). We also have a ‘Children’s Store’ with toys and games. The kids can earn points to ‘buy’ things from the store by attending both Sunday School and Children’s Church, by having a good attitude and obeying the teachers, and by learning weekly Scripture memory verses. Our goal is to teach them how to hide God’s Word in their hearts and to understand what the Bible means. They are learning to read Scripture for themselves and see what it actually says. Every once in a while, they catch us and say, ‘Well, it doesn’t say that in my Bible,’ and we have to check our translations!. We are amazed at what they have learned this year! They are so smart and hungry to know God!”
